Turkish MP provokes inside Greek parliament

A clear message to the neighboring country that provocative reactions to exploit gas reserves in the Cyprus EEZ are a flagrant violation of international law and may create another crisis in the region, was sent Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos, during an event organized by the Greek Parliament in cooperation with the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
A Turkish deputy belonging to president Erdogan's AK Party was especially provocative. Speaking in the Greek parliament Osman Aşkın Bak talked about unilateral actions of Cyprus. "Barbaros [seismic research vessel] is conducting seismographic surveys and we know that there should be no unilateral action on the part of Cyprus. All areas are accessible by all, and the two peoples must decide how they will use their resources. There can be no unilateral activity in the area. There must be an agreement, and thus the sharing of natural gas resources,” he said.
Responding, New Democracy MP and former Deputy Foreign Minister Euripides Stylianidis (pictured) noted that the exploitation of such deposits is based on international treaties and the EEZ and urged Turkey to "not open issues in the area while the risks of arising phenomena of instability threaten all our common interests"
Earlier the President of the House Vangelis Meimarakis spoke about the need to have good neighborly principles to enable the two sides to live together.
