Over the last few years, the economic crisis that struck Greece has had a great impact on recreation among other things since it limited outings. A relevant study by the National Social Research Institute (EKKE) on the cultural consumption shows that the crisis has decreased spending on recreation and cultural participation by 15%.
According to Kathimerini newspaper, as concerns live music, the decrease has reached 62%, theater/dance 78%, while cinema has dropped by 40%.
“The biggest changes are observed in the consumption of cultural products by small-medium entrepreneurs, shop owners, and manual laborers,” according to Dimitris Emmanouil, EKKE director of research, and the scientific manager of the study.
The impression of deconstruction of a recreational model that was closely associated with the years of prosperity (large night clubs, pop music stages) is intense. However, although number show a impressive drop. However a cursory view of such venues on weekends shows that at least on those days the clubs are full.
