Mitsotakis: I'm Bound by Agreement to Sack Civil Servants

"I did not sign the agreement [the memorandum], I inherited it. Therefore, I must enforce it, Layoffs will take place. This is a binding agreement," was the message sent by government reform minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in an interview with Belgian daily "La Libre Belgique."
The article, entitled "The Clientilistic State Facilitated Many," Mr. Mitsotakis noted that the troika wants 25,00 civil servants out of work by the end of the year, and another 15,000 in 2014.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis noted that the state had 130,000 fewer employees than it did in 2009, also noting that the cost of the state had also decreased significantly.
Regarding the battle against the clentilistic nature of the state, Mr. Mitsotakis noted that there are no hirings any longer without due examination and assessment processes, collectively known as the ASEP process.
