Dentist Guilty of Blinding Woman

The woman had visited the dentist for a root canal in August 2002, After the end of the procedure the dentist had to use calcium hydroxide to cauterize the tooth.

The dentist used a metal syringe instead of the disposable plastic kind,but failed in his first attempt to inject the liquid. He then tried to find another syringe, but failing to do so tried with same instrument once again.

However, this time he failed to take precautions and failed to warn the patient to cover her eyes. The liquid shot out at speed and entered her left eye causing burns to the cornea and the conjunctiva.

The dentist was found guilty of negligence and causing grievous bodily harm, awarding the plaintiff 30,000 euros instead of the 200,000 euros she was demanding.
