Merkel: No Greek bailout without the IMF
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Messages from the IMF, have long been clear: it is trying to disengage from the Greek program, it refers to impairment of debt and does not wish to participate in a new bailout for Greece.
As conveyed by Handelsbatt, although no one admits it openly, it is evident that there is disagreement between the three institutions. There is no question that the eurozone can imagine a rescue of Greece from June without the IMF, a senior EU diplomat replied to the newspaper in a very categorical and negative manner. While some stakeholders are trying to divide the lenders, they are not going to succeed, said the diplomat.
For Chancellor Merkel it is very important to involve the IMF. Otherwise it will be difficult to convince skeptics of the core of the group on the need for a new support package.
“Not, without the IMF is the key message conveyed to Jean Claude Juncker. Meanwhile, of course, mobility has been recorded, Athens submitted a new list of reforms that are assessed more acceptable by Brussels. For Merkel, however, a first progress marks a first step. "Negotiations will be accelerated, should recorded progress be evident," the Chancellor said yesterday with an eye to the Summit in Riga, Latvia.
