The remains of the Greek paratroopers and pilots of a Noratlas transport shot down by friendly fire while trying to land at Nicosia airport to aid defenders during the Turkish invasion of 1974 have all been found.
Presidential Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs of Cyprus, Fotis Fotiou, made the announcement on Tuesday, calling on mass media to show restraint and respect in reporting on this sensitive issue.
According to information, the human remains of 15 Greek commandos and 4 pilots of Noratlas were spotted.
The next step is to proceed to the identification of human DNA.
“We will have the results as soon as possible and we will inform all relatives”, said Mr. Fotiou.
