Doctors of the World urge authorities to move underage refugees out of Moria

The Greek division of Doctors of the World (MdM-Greece) urged the government on Monday to resolve the issue of unaccompanied minors who are held at Moria’s detention center in Lesvos.
In a press release, the organization notes its concern over a fight that broke out between minors in Moria on Sunday night. About 140 youngsters continue to remain in detention beyond the four month limit, while new migrants are added to these numbers, MdM-Greece said.
“Despite continued efforts to include more activities in the program for unaccompanied minors, their prolonged stay in conditions of confinement has significantly deteriorated their psychology. The increase in panic attacks among minors is indicative,” the NGO said and urged authorities to intensify efforts to plan and develop new centers for minors at a local or central level, or adopt different forms of accommodation, such as foster case, as is the case in Europe.
