Doctors of the World criticise recall of Belgian asylum experts from Greek islands
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Doctors of the World (Medecins du Monde) on Thursday strongly criticised the Belgian government for recalling its asylum experts from Greek islands, saying that Belgian State Secretary for Migration Theo Francken had made a "totally paradoxical" decision.
"If there are problems in Greece and the refugees are complaining, this is also due to the failure of the other European countries to meet their responsibilities, tossing the 'hot potato' to Greece," said Pierre Verbeeren, the head of the aid organisation in Belgium.
In statements to the press, Verbeeren pointed out that Francken was asking for the asylum process to be accelerated at the same time as he decided the recall of the experts processing asylum applications, thus leading to even greater delays and "making the situation worse for everyone."
