Immigrants mobilize in Chios camp

There were rumors in the camp that deportations to Turkey will begin in 15 days for people whose asylum application has been rejected, together with a power supply interruption and water for more than 10 days, caused the immediate mobilization of immigrants.

On Monday morning, more than 100 people went on a hunger strike, refusing meals offered by the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), to protest against the conditions in the camp.

Immigrants with slogans such as "we are people, not animals," or "Give us freedom", demanded the immediate improvement of conditions, otherwise they warned of mobilizations in the city of Chios.

The camp, on Monday morning, was surrounded by police forces and forces of the Coast Guard, while UNHCR staff banned admission for non-migrants.
