Greek industrial production up 5.4 pct in May

Greek industrial production grew 5.4 pct in May, with manufacturing production rising by 4.2 pct in the month, Hellenic Statistical Authority said on Monday.
The statistics service, in a report, said the industrial production index rose 5.4 pct in May compared with the same month last year, after a 3.5 pct increase recorded in the 2016/2015 period. The statistics service attributed this development to a 6.8 pct increase in mining production, a 4.2 pct rise in manufacturing production (reflecting a 23.8 pct jump in leather/footwear production, a 19.3 pct rise in pharmaceuticals, a 37.4 pct jump in base metals and a 64.3 pct jump in computer/optical products). Electricity production rose 12.6 pct in May, while water production rose 1.1 pct.
The average industrial production index was up 6.8 pct in the January-May period, compard with the corresponding period in 2016.
