Civil service manager charged for harassing Christians at work

National Agency for Qualification and Vocational Guidance managing director Elena Giannakopoulou is facing charges for offense of insulting religion and violating the anti-racist law on the basis of employee complaints.
Workers at the National Agency for Qualification and Vocational Guidance (EOPPEP) complained that Ms Giannakopoulou had been harassing those who wore crosses around their necks or had icons on desks or in their offices.
According to the complainants, on August 15, the managing director threw images of the Virgin Mary into the waste basket and tried to remove a cross from an employee's neck.
The prosecution against the head of EOPEPP is the first to be carried out under the anti-racist law for a case related to religious discrimination.
