European Commission chief condemns Turkish aggression against Greece and Cyprus
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said he unequivocally condemned the behaviour displayed by Turkey regarding the incidents in the Aegean Sea and the islets of Imia, as well as its harassment of drilling ships in the Cypriot Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
Responding to a question by a Greek reporter, following the attempt by a Turkish navy ship to ram a Greek coastguard boat near the islets of Imia, Mr Juncker was laconic, but clear underlining: “I am categorically against the behaviour by Turkey”. Yesterday, the European Commission urged Turkey to abstain from any actions that raised tensions and destroyed good neighbourly relations, urging the country to respect the sovereign rights of EU Member States, after the Turkish moves in the exclusive economic zone of Cyprus.
