ANEL MP, Thanassis Papachristopoulos, a member of the ruling coalition, speaking on SKAI television said today that the government had friendly relations withenterpreneur and PAOK FC owner Ivan Savvidis.
"My opinion is that Mr. Savvidis had some friendly relations with the government, I do not deny it, but it is something that will pass. "The good captain can be measured in a storm," said Papachristopoulos, when questioned about the consequences the government may face.
When asked by journalisrs about who the go-between between the government and Ivan Savvidis was Panos Savvidis, Papachristopoulos, underlined that "every businessman wants to have friendly relations with the government."
By characterizing Ivan Savvidis' intrusion of the Touba playing field with a firearm as a mistake, when asked if he should be arrested, he avoided answering, saying "I do not like to get into such details."
The government once again attempts to shirk off some of the accusations concerning preferential relations with Ivan Savidis, with government spokesperson Dimitris Tzanakopoulos hastening to inform reporters that "the government has no friendly relations with any entrepreneur."
However, being cautious, the government spokesman explained that the government "is trying to facilitate any investment that can provide jobs". And referring to football, he reiterated that "the championship will not resume to the extent that the officials will table proposals such as to guarantee the safety of the games and the consolidation of Greek football." He also pointed out that "the ball is in the court of EPO and the Super League".
Concerning the proposals on incompatibility, he said that "it is about European legislation, not about self-government".
