Main opposition Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) MP Petros Tatsopoulos on Thursday submitted his resignation from the party to SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras, while sources said that his resignation might well be accepted.
Tatsopoulos was summoned by the party's Parliamentary group to explain his statements on attitudes to terrorism by some elements within the party.
"Nobody in SYRIZA is either politically or ideologically fond of terrorism," said SYRIZA's secretary Dimitris Vitsas, commenting on Tatsopoulos' statements.
"It is an even bigger mistake to refer [in this way] to comrades with a long history and contribution to social rights and the overthrow of austerity," he added.
Tatsopoulos said he intended to keep his seat in Parliament.
