West Nile virus claims five lives in Greece

The West Nile virus transmitted by the sting of infected mosquitoes has alerted the health authorities of Greece, as already 5 deaths have been recorded.
According to information, Western Attica holds the lead in the cases of the transmission and the occurrence of serious West Nile virus infections.
According to the HCDCP and the National Center for Blood Donation (CSRN), 33 areas (municipalities) across the country are in alarm. These are the municipalities of Megareon, Elefsina, Aspropyrgos, Ilioupoli, Athens (2nd district), Heraklion, Agia Varvara, Salamina, Korydallou, Nikaia - Agios Ioannis Renti, Trizinia- Methana, Perama and Oropos in Attica.
Also, on the same map with the infectious paths of the West Nile virus, listed are five municipalities of Central Greece (Loutraki-Perachora-Agion Theodoroi, Halkidene, Tanagra, Aliartou-Thespieon, Thiva), seven municipalities of Thessaloniki (Chalkidon, Oreokastro, Thessaloniki, Delta, Thermaikos), three municipalities of Imathia (Alexandria, Veria, Naoussa Heroes), two municipalities of Pella (Pella, Skydra), one municipality from Kilkis (Paionia), one from Halkidiki (Kassandra ) and one from Rethymnon (Mylopotamos).
