The Turkish former MP of the pro-Kurdish party of Turkey, Lila Birlik, crossed the borders illegally and surrendered to the Greek police in Alexandroupolis where she requested political asylum.
As Hurriyet writes, the former MP crossed the Greek-Turkish border, despite the fact that she was banned from leaving Turkey and she was waiting to be tried.
Birlik is trying to get in touch with HDP executives in Greece in order to avoid being sent back to Turkey.
At present, Birlik remains in Evros area.
The former MP was arrested on 4 November 2016 in Turkey on charges of “propaganda on behalf of a terrorist organization” (PKK).
Two months later, she was released but she was banned from leaving the country until her trial.
