Russian ambassador: Yes to name change for FYROM, no to NATO accession

At a meeting with journalists yesterday, the Russian ambassador to Athens said Moscow would respect the agreement between Skopje and Athens to change the name, but opposed the accession of the country to the North Atlantic Alliance.
"If Athens and Skopje reach an agreement on the name and if it is formally accepted by the Constitution of the Republic of Macedonia, then we will recognize it," Andrei Maslov said.
The Ambassador stressed that Russia disagreed with FYROM's accession to NATO and that Moscow would apply countermeasures for the country's integration into the Alliance, as Skopje newspaper Express says.
