Hurriyet: Tsipras tried to extradite the eight Turkish officers
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
An article in the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet, in view of the visit of the Prime Minister to Ankara on Tuesday and Wednesday, highlights the Turkish government's assurance that Alex Tzipras will endeavor to extradite the eight Turkish soldiers who have applied for asylum in Greece.
"Erdogan and Tsipras will also talk about fugitive Turkish soldiers who were granted asylum despite attempting to overthrow the government through a coup in July 2016. Turkey was pretty sure that Tsipras had tried hard to reverse the situation and to issue them.
Erdogan, who made a historic visit to Western Thrace in 2017, will certainly sate the problems of the "Turkish" minority, while Tsipras will certainly demand the reopening of the Theological School of Halki," comments columnist Serkan Demitras.
At the same time, reference is made to the "unresolved problems" between the two countries at bilateral and regional level, ie the confrontation in the Aegean Sea and the dispute over the research carried out by Nicosia for hydrocarbons, and refers to the departure of Panos Kammenos from the Ministry of the Interior Defense and Government: "The departure of former Minister of Defense Panos Kammenos from the Greek cabinet certainly gives hope for enhanced talks between the two countries."
