New Democracy MP Vassilis Kikilias, on the occasion of a recent publication for the listing of 43,000 foreigners on the electoral lists of Athens, submitted a question to the House.
According to the ESTIA newspaper, the government is allegedly promoting a bill giving voting rights to foreigners who have acquired Greek citizenship by express procedures, ahead of the 2019 elections.
Indeed, the ND MP stated that "It is not, at least, elegant that such changes are announced and applied while elections are scheduled. The process of rendering citizenship is a top act and should not be part of or parceled as part of party planning.
According to the reports, the government has already registered 43,000 foreign voters on the electoral rolls of the First Athens district and stubbornly refuses the request of the expatriate Greeks' vote.
