Mitsotakis: Gov't becoming more dangerous and 'toxic' as it sees its end approach
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Main opposition New Democracy's president Kyriakos Mitsotakis renewed his attack on the government on Thursday, while speaking in Menidi, Aitoloakarnania, where he urged voters to "send a political message about the major political change coming to the country" through the May 26 elections.
"So that on the night of May 26, we can all truly say that we are living behind us an era of darkness, an era of populism, an era of division, inefficiency, insecurity and poverty...the legacy, unfortunately, of the present government. A government which, as it sees its end approach, is becoming more and more dangerous, more and more toxic, more and more tabloid," he added.
While ND had never initiated 'hostilities', he noted, it would not hesitate to respond to mud-slinging "harshly and with strong arguments" and he repeated his criticism of the prime minister's decision to holiday in a "luxury yacht" in the summer of 2018.
He also promised that an ND government would reduce taxes "for all Greeks" and "make the pie bigger for everyone".
"On May 26, Greek society will give a vote of confidence to New Democracy and not to SYRIZA and Mr. Tsipras...but since the national elections will follow the European elections and will happen at some point, however much Mr. Tsipras fears them and tries to put them off, the Euroelections have great political importance," Mitsotakis said.
