President Pavlopoulos to Turkey: Greeks will ensure the full respect of European, international law

He stressed that "we will do so in a context of unison, as is the case every time we defend our national values and laws".

At the same time, Pavlopoulos stressed that "from here, at Tripoli, on this anniversary, we are sending the message to our neighbor Turkey that we, Greeks, have a past which taught us not divisiveness and revenge, but the need to consolidate friendship and peaceful coexistence."

He did stress, however, that this presupposes Turkey's full and sincere respect for all international and European law, especially when its European perspective also depends on it.

Referring to the Siege of Tripolitsa, he noted that Greeks are celebrating this emblematic victory of the 1821 War of Independence, which, thanks to the strategic genius of general Theodoros Kolokotronis, led to the awakening of national identity and the subsequent creation of the modern Greek State.
