No snow means losses for Greek ski resorts
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
"Conditions in Greece's ski resorts are difficult," a spokesperson of the Greek Ski Resorts Iraklis Lefoussis said on Tuesday in an interview with radio station "Praktoreio 104.9 FM". Lefoussis added that not a single ski resort will open for Christmas, something that translates into significant annual turnover losses.
As he said, neighbouring countries are also facing the same problem. However, low temperatures in the northern borders have helped some countries operate the technical snow systems in order to attract visitors, particularly Greeks, that saw that there is no snow in Greece." As a result people have turned to Bulgaria and Serbia where some ski resorts are open. "This means that annual turnover losses have already been reduced by 20-25 pct," he added.
