Ano Poria in Serres, at the foot of Mount Beles overlooking Lake Kerkini, is home to Nikos Varkas, a fanatical traveler and horse lover.
He started his tours with 6 borrowed horses about 20 years ago and has worked hard to create the largest herd of Pindos Greek breed horses in Europe!
The population exceeds 700 horses, which is maintained with great effort and incredible personal care.
The Greek Pindos horse - an endangered species - coexists with and has been with humans since ancient times, friend, companion, worker has provided immense help to Greek farming, animal herding, and logging.
He is therefore subsidized in order to save the tribe. At the same time Nikos Varkas is active in the field of alternative tourism with horse tours in the amazing beauty of Mount Beles in Ano Poria of Serres prefecture.
The company owns 20 horses and runs short and long rides. Horse riding is easy and comfortable for all ages and requires no prior physical experience.
