Switzerland will contribute 1.1 million Swiss francs to help the migration issue in Greece and will assume the resettlement of 22 unaccompanied refugee minors from Greece, as finalised on Thursday by Alternate Minister of Migration and Asylum George Koumoutsakos and his Swiss counterpart Mario Gattiker, who spoke on the telephone.
The amount will be handled through the Church of Greece, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Red Cross.
According to a ministry statement, Gattiker stressed that the Swiss government "highly appreciates the work and effective efforts made by the Greek government in protecting the unaccompanied minors and its treatment of them."
It was agreed that a teleconference will be held between the two ministries' technical departments on May 7.
