Foreign Minister – Demarche to Turkey for illegal fishing in Greek territorial waters

The Greek embassy in Ankara staged a protest in Turkey against illegal fishing by Turkish fishing boats in Greek territorial waters, following an order from Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias.
According to the relevant announcement, Mr. Dendias, “in the context of ensuring our national sovereignty, as well as the protection of the European acquis, instructed the Greek Embassy in Ankara to hold a protest action for illegal fishing by Turkish fishing vessels within the of our territorial waters.
He also stressed the condemnable practice of Turkish Coast Guard vessels, which accompanies Turkish fishing vessels and harass Greek fishing vessels.
“Illegal fishing in Greek territorial waters is also a violation of European law, in addition to the fact that it is another violation, on the part of Turkey, of the International Law of the Sea.
“Turkey, unfortunately, continues its delinquent behavior.
“The Greek side, committed to defending its rights under international law, leaves no challenge unanswered.”
