Today, Thursday, Kyriakos Mitsotakis will participate in the Berlin Process Summit to be held at the German chancellery, where he will highlight the leading role of Greece as a key force for energy security and the diversification of energy sources in the Balkans and Southeast Europe, an issue that has become even more pressing after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
According to sources from the PM's office, Mr. Mitsotakis is going to point out that the regional integration of the Western Balkans is an investment in their security, stability and growth and will underline the key role that energy cooperation has, especially in the current geopolitical landscape.
As the Greek government points out, it is clear that Athens firmly supports the European perspective of the Western Balkans.
The prime minister will intervene and speak in a special section regarding energy security and energy transformation, a fact indicative of the importance attributed to Greece's key role in the region, but also of the recognition of the initiatives it has undertaken with the infrastructure it is developing for the diversification of energy sources and the energy security of the entire region - and has already demonstrated this with the example of Bulgaria, as well as with the operation of the Greek-Bulgarian IGB pipeline.
Finally, the Summit, which will also be attended by the President of the Commission Ursula von der Leyen and the President of the European Council Charles Michel, is expected to end in the adoption of a Declaration on energy security and the green transition in the Western Balkans.
