"Today the prime minister is participating in the trilateral Greece-Cyprus-Israel summit, which is taking place in Nicosia," government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis said on Monday, adding that the prime minister is expected to highlight the added value of the trilateral scheme and the synergies that work for the benefit of stability and security in the region. As he said, "the cooperation between the three countries can create an energy corridor from the Eastern Mediterranean to Europe. This includes the Euroasia intercorrector electrical interconnection project, i.e. electrical interconnection between Israel, Cyprus and Greece which will connect Israel's electricity markets with Europe."
He underlined that "this meeting marks the deepening and strengthening of trilateral cooperation as a triangle of stability, security and prosperity in the region."
Marinakis also referred to the foreign minister's visit to Ankara on Tuesday to meet with his Turkish counterpart, following Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis' recent meeting with President Erdogan, on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Vilnius.
He pointed out that the two ministers will focus on issues concerning the bilateral relations of the two countries and regional developments, while they will also discuss the preparation of the planned meeting between Mitsotakis and Erdogan ahead of their participation in the UN General Assembly in Thessaloniki.
He also referred to the issue of consumer protection. "Consistent with what we have said and what the Prime Minister has personally committed to, compliance with legality in all fields and consumer protection are issues of the highest priority for the government. It is a continuous process and no exception will be made to it. Every business, in whatever sector it operates, must abide by the law and respect the rights of consumers. When this does not happen, the competent authorities will intervene, imposing sanctions and fines."
