FM Gerapetritis after MED9 meeting: Greece to maintain active role in Middle East crisis talks

The MED9 agenda focused on the situation in the Middle East and cooperation with the EU members of the Mediterranean region.

Following the meeting, Gerapetritis and that the FMs had an opportunity to coordinate their action and reach a joint understanding on issues of the Middle East. They also welcomed the decision for a humanitarian four-day pause of fighting in Gaza for the release of hostages.

"Greece will continue to play an active role because it is a consistent and reliable correspondent of all sides. We believe that the humanitarian pause should serve as a start so that we may reach a peaceful resolution of the Middle East issue. We shall continue to talk with involved parties," the Greek FM said. 

He added that Greece had promoted the idea of a humanitarian pause in all talks with involved parties from the start.

MED9 was established in 2013 and includes the countries of Greece, Cyprus, Croatia, France, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Slovenia and Spain.
