"I wouldn't be exaggerating when I say that the Thessaloniki metro will be a point of attraction for tourists in the city." stated the head of the Greece-Cyprus department of the Directorate-General for Regional Policy and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) of the European Commission, Carsten Rasmussen, in statements after his tour to the depot and the metro stations, an Elliniko Metro announcement said on Wednedsday. Rasmussen was toured by the general director of Elliniko Metro SA Nikos Kouretas.
Especially for the "Venizelou" station, where the last works of highlighting the antiquities are being carried out, Rasmussen, declaring himself impressed, emphasized: "it is unique in the world. It is fantastic!'
He expressed his satisfaction over the progress of the works noting that only a few things are left for which the involved are working for in order to be ready on time.
"Now, I can confirm that the Thessaloniki metro project is indeed close to completion," he noted, clarifying that there are few things left that those involved are working feverishly to complete before November 30. "I am absolutely sure that they will succeed," he said.
