A Greek UN employee has come under the microscope of the investigating authorities, and is being investigated for a fraud case that exceeds 1 million dollars.
The employee, who was involved in the management of UN funds in Brussels, is accused of misappropriating the money through fake receipts in the Organization's expense reports. The investigation began after a random inspection of the UN and the Prosecutor's Office was notified.
According to the information so far, her actions allegedly extend between the years 2014-2021. The UN complaint also concerned the European Public Prosecutor's Office, which, however, declared itself incompetent, and thus the investigation returned to the Prosecutor's Office of First Instance.
She denies the charges against her
The employee was summoned to give an explanation for the offenses of felony fraud and forgery. She denied the charges and, according to information, claimed that she was the victim of a dispute between her superiors and that the Organization's control system is flawed.
However, her explanations were not convincing, and prosecutor Giorgos Noulis filed a criminal case against her for fraud and forgery. The case was assigned to a regular investigator, who is expected to call the accused to testify.
