An eyewitness described the accident:
“Suddenly, I saw a taxi on the opposite side speeding on the median strip and crashing into a pole. I stopped a little further down, and as I turned back, I saw an ambulance passing by, probably from a nursing home, as far as we could tell. It stopped, took the passenger—she had been thrown into the windshield. They checked the driver’s pulse, but he had none, and they left. Then the Fire Department and paramedics arrived immediately. It was speeding without braking, something must have happened to him.”
