Sanctions on captain and crew for disabled child who traveled in a garage ferry boat from Thassos

The intervention of the Minister of Shipping and Insular Policy, Vasilis Kikilias, was prompted by the shocking image of the disabled person who was forced to travel in the car garage of a ferry.
By order of the minister, the Kavala Port Authority has initiated the procedure for imposing sanctions for violation of the provisions of the General Port Regulation, against the master and the loading officers of the ship involved in the incident.
It is recalled that on Tuesday, July 23, a passenger complained about the transportation of a child who uses a wheelchair in the garage of a passenger-carrying ship, during the route from the port of Thassos to Keramoti, amidst high temperatures. The relevant complaint was posted on the Internet.
In this context, strict recommendations were made to the captain, particularly regarding his failure to take appropriate care to move the disabled person and his companion to a suitably designed and safe area.
At the same time, with strict orders from the Central Service, inspections are being intensified, especially on open-type EG/OG ships, to determine whether the appropriate care is being taken by the masters to avoid similar incidents in the future, with the primary goal of ensuring the smooth and unhindered movement of disabled people and their companions, as well as the rest of the passenger public, on the ships.
