Mayor of Zakynthos on the video of a sex contest between tourists: "We do not tolerate such images and such defamation"

The mayor of the island, George Stasinopoulos, spoke to SKAI about the video of a sex contest between tourists in a nightclub in Zakynthos that went viral, emphasizing that "Zakynthos is not what you see. It is a beautiful island, where families can come, have a good time and have fun in civilized ways."

More specifically, the mayor of Zakynthos clarified that: “We reacted strongly and complained to both the prosecutor and the police department, to see if the video is real. And if it is not real, no one has the right to defame an entire island.”

When asked if he believes that these acts by tourists may not have taken place on the island, he replied: “we are examining all possibilities. However, Zakynthos has now turned a page, and we do not tolerate such images and such defamation.”

According to Mr. Stassinopoulos, the incident allegedly occurred in a store in the Laganas area and this is being investigated.

“Zakynthos is the 5th tourist destination, with 1.5 million tourists annually. What they want to present in Laganas does not represent our island, which is why all stakeholders are fighting to change the face of the area,” he stressed.

A few days ago, a video was uploaded to TikTok, showing a group of tourists performing oral sex on their partners inside a nightclub, while at the same time they are surrounded by a crowd of people who are filming the scene.
