A mystery surrounds the case of the discovery of a woman's body, which was pulled up in the port of Piraeus on Monday morning.

The captain and the sailor of the passenger ship that located the unfortunate woman spoke to STAR about what they experienced.

"I saw the woman floating dead in the sea. She was on her back. At first I mistook her for some bag, some Styrofoam. But when I took the binoculars, what I managed to see was that she was wearing black clothes, black underwear, a blouse, black beach shoes," said Nikos Koutsoukos, sailor of the passenger ship "Apollon Hellas".

The crew and passengers of the ship "Apollon Hellas", which was departing at 7:30 for Aegina were faced with the macabre sight of a woman's body floating on the surface of the sea at gate E8 of the port of Piraeus. The captain immediately stopped the engines and notified the authorities.

"While leaving, hoisting the anchors, we spotted the woman's body. We immediately informed the port authorities about her recovery. We were awaiting instructions from the Coast Guard if they needed any help from us," added Captain Stratos Teknakis.

Within a few minutes, a Piraeus central port authority vessel rushed to the scene and recovered the unconscious woman. In Tzaneio, where she was taken, doctors pronounced her dead.

The port authorities investigating the exact causes of the woman's death estimate that she was a woman in her 50s and it does not appear that she drowned while bathing.

Officers of the first port department of the central port authority of Piraeus are investigating whether the woman who was found is from the list of missing women of the recent period.
