After the collision, the driver left the scene without leaving any evidence. After a search, he was located a short time later in Koropi, at the premises of a car rental company, from which he had rented the vehicle, and was arrested.

“They hit me, they sped up and they drove away”
Speaking to media, Ms. Latinopoulou described in detail the moment of the collision: “I was in Kifissias and we were going to stop at an orange traffic light. I was the passenger. Suddenly a vehicle comes at speed from behind and crashes into us. In the shock and jolt – the traffic light was also red – I turn around to see that the vehicle had turned on its hazard lights. We pull over and instead of following us, it steps on the gas and drives away. I called police emergency, they came, the procedures were initiated, I gave a statement, etc.”.

At another point, she added: “They hit me, they gassed me and they drove away. I am under close observation for three 24-hour periods, as the doctor recommended great caution. The tests do not immediately show the condition of my neck, which has been injured. I want to thank the Hellenic Police for responding immediately and initiating all procedures.”

The MEP who was hospitalized at the KAT returned home late at night but remains under medical observation, while authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the accident. The 35-year-old driver is expected to be brought before the prosecutor, facing serious charges of abandonment after a traffic accident.
