Giannis Antetokounmpo's family permanently in Athens - His children started kindergarten at Athens College

Featured Giannis Antetokounmpo's family permanently in Athens - His children started kindergarten at Athens College

The Greek superstar, after settling his wife and four children in his home in Psychiko, begins his professional obligations in Milwaukee - The Greek Freak's dream at 40, and if there is a serious proposal, to leave the NBA for his homeland

In a relatively quiet neighborhood of Paleo Psychiko, everyone who passes by an impressive futuristic apartment building every day and is not a resident of the area, does not know that this house belongs to the family of Giannis Antetokounmpo.

What they also do not know is that the Milwaukee Bucks ace has now permanently settled his family in our country. So, starting this year, Mariah and their four children, 5-year-old Liam-Charles, 4-year-old Maverick-Shai, 2-year-old Eva-Brooke and just four-month-old Aria-Capri, will live in Athens for the next few years.

It was a decision that was made this year and as Greek Freak revealed in an extensive interview, when he asked Mariah where she prefers to have their main residence - Milwaukee or Athens -, the answer was immediate. The Greek capital easily beat the city where Giannis Antetokounmpo built his basketball legend, while the discussion about permanent settlement had taken place with both his siblings and mother, as well as with very close friends of the couple in previous months.

Liam and Maverick in kindergarten

If anything has changed in the Antetokounmpo family's daily routine, it's that since the beginning of September, Giannis and Mariah's two sons have been going to kindergarten. 5-year-old Liam and 4-year-old Maverick wake up every day and go to Athens College.

The choice of Athens College was not just a coincidence, since the 30-year-old basketball player wanted only the best for his two sons, from their first school years. He chose Greece for them to go to school, an example of the love he has for the country he grew up in, something that was evident in the tears of joy for the national basketball team's bronze medal in the European Cup, the most precious trophy of his career, as he said.

Giannis is already in Milwaukee, as the Bucks' NBA games begin on Tuesday. While he was in Athens, he trained intensively at OAKA every day, spending his last days in Greece before returning to America. Giannis, however, made sure to rest during the summer at the villa he bought in Costa Navarino, while also making some leisurely outings in Athens, before joining the National Team.

The cost of fame

One question, of course, from the moment he decides to return to Greece - in his last interview he said that if the right conditions exist, he would do so in six years - is how much he will be able to withstand the chaos that occurs when he decides to go out with his family.

Something that was evident in his last public outing, since when he entered the fish tavern "Nisiotissa" in Vrilissia with Maria and their children, he barely had time to sit down and the parade began. Dozens of people were filming him with their mobile phones, while young and old wanted to take a photo with him, which created a small pandemonium. Antetokounmpo did not disappoint anyone, but the images are indicative of an unprecedented popularity, such that when he sits in a fish tavern with his children and wife, he has twenty people filming him with their mobile phones from everywhere.

Some customers even climbed up on their chairs to have a panoramic view of Giannis, who faced it calmly, having realized that he could not avoid it. That's why, although he really likes Athens and walks on the Athenian Riviera, he doesn't go out often, preferring the safety of his futuristic residence.

Sweet home and America

The residence in Psychiko was purchased in 2023 by Giannis, who wanted to have his own house in Athens, where he, his siblings and their mother could live. Giannis and Maria chose the penthouse of the modern apartment building and there they spend many hours of the day with their children. The apartment building has apartments for all his siblings and their mother, who, however, according to information, will follow him to Milwaukee.

In fact, people who know Giannis Antetokounmpo well emphasize that it will not be easy for him to separate from his wife and children in order to return to his obligations. It is the first time he has done something like this, since the couple decided that Greece suits them better than the cold and humid climate of Milwaukee, where even in July - the hottest month - the temperature does not exceed 26 degrees Celsius.

As for their daily communication, this will be done through face time calls so that Giannis can see his children, while depending on the NBA schedule, the family will also travel. At Christmas - the Greek Freak even plays on the day of the birth of the God- Mariah and their children will travel to the USA, so that they can spend the holidays together. Then they will return to their new Greek reality, which they now enjoy permanently and will wait for Giannis to travel to Athens, when this is possible.

However, there are many who believe that Giannis will want to leave the NBA in five or six years if the right conditions and a contract are met that will satisfy his financial demands. Which will of course be adapted to the European reality and not to the mythical earnings of the Greek Freak in the NBA.

In October 2023, the Bucks extended their cooperation until 2026-27, with a contract that will earn him a total of 158,432,754 euros, that is, 39,608,113 euros per year. Of course, there is no European basketball team that can give such an annual contract, something that Giannis knows very well, while in terms of age he will be at the crossroads of his career.

When Giannis asked Mariah if he prefers Milwaukee or Athens, the answer was the Greek capital and specifically the Psychiko residence, which Giannis Antetokounmpo's family bought two years ago.

Business in Greece

He himself, as much as he admires LeBron James, is said, according to his environment, to be unwilling to play basketball at 40, as much as he loves the sport that gave him everything he dreamed of. As he said in his radio interview, he would like to end his career in Greece, here where it all began, here where he has now permanently settled his family, here where he is actively involved in business.

In addition to the purchase of the apartment building in Psychiko and two luxury homes in Costa Navarino, the Greek market is securing an increasingly larger share of Giannis' total investments.

Ten months ago, the joint acquisition with Elias Georgiadis of Premia Properties, the Village Shopping & More shopping center in the Rentis area, was added to his portfolio. His participation in Hellenic Wineries - also of Georgiadis' interests - with a 10% stake had already been made known, while this year the Semeli Estate, which belonged to the Sala family, was acquired.

His business activities in our country include the Antetokounbros retail stores (with clothing, accessories, gifts and other items bearing the Antetokounbo brand) at the "El. Venizelos" airport and in Ermou Street, while a third operates in Milwaukee.

Giannis' businesses have expanded over the years and abroad, since apart from trade and real estate, he "plays" in catering with the Greek tavern "Avli" in the USA, he invested in "green" funds in partnership with the Greek billionaire John Kalamos, medical care/telemedicine with the Israeli startup Antidote, the new sports drink company Ready Nutrition, the Canadian confectionery brand Candy Funhouse, the luxury watch resale platform WatchBox ("teammate" with Michael Jordan), the wellness and fitness services brand Flexpower, sports franchises (Nashville SC/MLS, Milwaukee Brewers/ MLB, Los Angeles Golf Club) and many other ventures, which are managed by Ante Inc.

The company founded by the kid who grew up in Sepolia, rocketed to the top, but he always carries the Greece of his heart within him.
