Tsipras' book "Ithaca" fans political flames
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
The publication of Alexis Tsipras’ memoirs entitled “Ithaca” has raised the heat throughout the political spectrum.
In the book, the former premier lets loose barbs at all his former colleagues in SYRIZA and the cabinet members he himself appointed.
As for the government it is taking the stance that the book will remind us of the actions of the Tsipras government without making him an interlocutor and adversary, at least for this period of time, as the government staff has decided.
And at every opportunity they will highlight a fundamental difference between the former prime minister and Mr. Mitsotakis. The former is forced to speak apologetically about the past, while the latter focuses on solving society's problems that concern the present and speaks about the future of the country. Besides, as government officials note, Mr. Tsipras is being deconstructed by the very content of his book and by his former comrades, whom he "brings to the fore" with what he writes about them.
Mitsotakis will not read Tsipras’ “Ithaca” - Government criticizes the arrogance of the former prime minister
Mr. Mitsotakis has stated that he will not read Mr. Tsipras’ “Ithaca”, but others in his office have already dome so, and the first comment they made about its content concerns the absence of any “apology” for any issue, attributing arrogance to the author. “Others are to blame for everything and he himself is trying to get out of the sinking ship “unscathed”, was the sharp comment of an associate of the Prime Minister.
Government spokesman, Pavlos Marinakis, chose to recall four points of the Tsipras government, which according to the government summarize his failure at the helm of the country. The 30 new taxes, the 120 unnecessary billions that "burdened the country", the tragedy in Mati and the "Ministry of Justice". "The public seems to be showing an increased interest in apprentice wizards. However, there is a very big difference. In one case, in the case of Harry Potter, that is, at Hogwarts, education was free. For us, education cost us at least 120 billion euros", commented Mr. Marinakis in a scathing manner.
The government is betting on the return of Tsipras to rally voters
There are many in the government camp who see the revival of a bipolarity with Mr. Tsipras positively. "It will rally our voters from both the right and the center", they argue. In their assessment, the fragmentation in the center-left and the absence of an opponent with whom ND will confront in the final stretch for the elections, since Mr. Androulakis does not seem to respond to this role, hides traps. The reappearance of the former Prime Minister can work beneficially and be to the benefit of the government, as they say.
