The 29-year-old driver who hit and killed a 24-year-old in Loutsa just before midnight on Saturday was under the influence of alcohol and had also been using cocaine.

According to information, the blood tests he underwent showed that his blood alcohol level was 0.63 grams/liter, above the legal limit of the Greek Road Traffic Code, which limits alcohol to 0.50 grams/liter of blood.

According to information, the toxicological tests he underwent showed that he had used cocaine on the fateful night.

After all, after his arrest, he had "premeditated" police by telling them that he occasionally "drank cocaine".

According to police sources, in the traffic accident in which the 29-year-old was involved in 2020, he had tested positive for cannabis use.

How the accident happened

The traffic accident occurred on Artemidos Avenue. According to security camera footage, the 29-year-old was speeding when he suddenly lost control of the car. He first crashed into a parked vehicle and then into a second one, around which the 24-year-old, his mother, his sister and the victim's 21-year-old girlfriend were standing. At the time, the four people were carrying things and putting them in the trunk. The car swept away pedestrians, fatally injuring the 24-year-old and seriously injuring the victim's 21-year-old girlfriend.

The 24-year-old who was on the right side of the car was thrown onto the sidewalk and hit his head on the curb, dying instantly, while the other two pedestrians were swept away by the blue car that continued its "crazy" course.

The 24-year-old who lost his life

The 24-year-old Sotiris Baltas was a great-grandson, on his mother's side, of the family with the "Leonidas" chocolate factory. The founder of the chocolate factory, Leonidas Kestekides, was the uncle of his mother's father.

The 24-year-old lived in Belgium where he was doing his master's degree and had come to Greece as his girlfriend was matriculating from university, according to his father.

"I found out the next day what happened. I live in the countryside and my brother came and picked me up. I don't understand what happened," the 24-year-old's father stressed, speaking to Star channel.

"My ex-wife and my daughter are out of the hospital, but they are all in a terrible state," he said, adding: "I have a girl and my Sotirakis. He lived in Belgium, was doing his master's degree and worked at the chocolate shop. He had come for two days because his girlfriend was taking her vows and someone ran into my children. We haven't hurt anyone. An angel has gone."
