At 07:45 in the morning, the Olympic Flame for the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics began its journey to the Kallimarmaro Stadium from the Acropolis, where the previous night the altar had been lit by Olympic rowing gold medalist Stefanos Duskos.
The torch relay was attended by several well-known personalities, including the US Ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle. The torch was handed to her by the Secretary General of the Hellenic Olympic Committee and Olympian in sailing at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, Stefanos Chandakas
Shortly after 08:30 in the morning, Kimberly Guilfoyle, wearing the special torch relay outfit with hat and gloves, received the Flame in front of the Acropolis Museum, at Dionysiou Areopagitou.
The torch was handed to her by the Secretary General of the Hellenic Olympic Committee and Olympian in sailing at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, Stefanos Chandakas.
After covering the predetermined distance, the US Ambassador handed the Flame to Josh Hack, No. 2 of the US Embassy in Athens.
He in turn carried it and handed it over to Christos Marafatsos, co-chair of the Greeks for Trump movement, continuing the torch relay chain in the heart of Athens.
Today's journey of the Olympic Flame concludes with the handover ceremony to the "Milano Cortina 2026" Organizing Committee, so that it can continue its journey in Italy until the Opening Ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games on 06.02.2025.
The route from the sacred rock of the Acropolis to the Kallimarmaro Stadium connects, once again, the Greek Olympic tradition with the institution of the modern Olympic Games.
