Featured Police spokesperson: There is no specific threat in Souda - Increased security measures at targets of American interests

Strict security measures have been implemented in our country due to developments in the Middle East, with an emphasis on targets of American and Israeli interests, as stated by Hellenic Police spokesperson Konstantina Dimoglidou.

In particular, the Hellenic Police has strengthened checks on diplomatic missions, as well as on business and commercial premises that could be targets, in the context of increased geopolitical tensions.

Speaking to ERT, the spokesperson for the Hellenic Police, Konstantina Dimoglidou, emphasized that “the measures are not limited to diplomatic missions, but also extend to business and commercial premises that may be targets.”

Particular emphasis is placed on the country’s major airports, where checks are carried out with increased personnel, while the security services - the Hellenic Police, the Armed Forces and the Hellenic Security Service - are in close coordination.

Regarding the American base in Souda
Regarding Crete and the Souda base, the authorities assure that “there is no specific threat”, despite the legitimate concern of citizens due to the strategic importance of the area. As Ms. Dimoglidou points out, attacks on foreign targets have been prevented in the past thanks to the timely action of the services.

For Greek citizens who are in Gulf countries and need travel documents, the Hellenic Police declares its readiness to assist in cooperation with the competent ministries, while so far no problem has been reported. There is no official recommendation to avoid specific points; the situation is characterized as a period of "very increased measures and surveillance", aimed at preventing any incident.
