Greece is standing by Cyprus' side, with Defense Minister Nikos Dendias traveling to the island tomorrow, Tuesday (3/3).

Also, according to information, Greece is sending the Belharra frigate "Kimon", another frigate, a pair of F-16s and the Kentauros anti-drone system to Cyprus.

Nikos Dendias will travel to Cyprus together with the Chief of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff Dimitrios Houpis.

According to the same information, the decision was made after the telephone conversation between Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides.

“Just now, the Prime Minister of Greece, Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis, spoke by phone with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides.

Also, for the last two days I have been in constant communication with my counterpart, the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Vassilis Palmas.

Following the unprovoked attacks on the territory of the Republic of Cyprus, I assured Mr. Palmas that Greece will contribute in every possible way to the defense of the Republic of Cyprus throughout the current crisis, so that threats and illegal actions on its territory can be addressed.

Following this, and in accordance with a decision of the KYSEA, the Frigate "KIMON" is being immediately sent to the Republic of Cyprus, together with a second Greek Frigate, which will carry the "CENTAVROS" system, as well as a pair of F-16 fighters being sent to the Republic of Cyprus to contribute to its defense against the threats it faces.

Also, for the better coordination of actions with the Republic of Cyprus, I will travel to Cyprus tomorrow, together with the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence Staff, General Dimitrios Houpis, where I will be received by President Nikos Christodoulides and I will have cooperation with Vassilis Palmas.

Akrotiri evacuated after attack on British bases - Sirens sounded, warplanes took off
An alarm has been sounded in Cyprus since the early hours of Monday, following the attack by an Iranian Shahed drone on the British base in Akrotiri.

In fact, at noon, sirens were put into operation in the area, while warplanes also took off, while Akrotiri was evacuated as a precaution.

At the same time, the British Bases seem to have sent a new message to their staff members and their families to remain in their homes due to an ongoing security threat.

Two drones intercepted - Paphos airport temporarily evacuated
Disruption was also caused at Paphos airport, as there was strong concern about a possible drone strike. Thus, the relevant protocol was put into effect and the airport was temporarily evacuated, with the alert expiring after a short time.
