Two Iranian ballistic missiles were shot down today by Greek Patriot air defense systems deployed in Saudi Arabia, according to sources from the Ministry of National Defense.

As reported, the systems of the Hellenic Force of Saudi Arabia (ELDYSA) were activated after a threat alert, resulting in the launch of two missiles to intercept the target.

The interception took place within the framework of its participation in the mission of the international initiative "Integrated Air Missile Defense (IAMD) Concept" to support the air defense of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Dendias statement

“This morning the Greek Patriot array in Saudi Arabia shot down two ballistic missiles originating from Iran aimed at refineries in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” Nikos Dendias said in a statement.

The Minister of National Defense noted that “in this way the Greek array proves how combat-ready it is and what experience it has gained all this time. But it also, indirectly but clearly, protects the standard of living of Greek citizens and European citizens.”

“The constant increase in the price of oil constitutes a huge threat to the standard of living of Greeks, Europeans, and the inhabitants of the entire planet. The precision platoon also threatens us and this is also a very big threat and the protection of refineries and oil production units is of enormous importance at this juncture,” he added.

“I would like to congratulate the cadres of the Greek Air Force in Saudi Arabia for what they have achieved,” he said.

It is noted that earlier the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Defense reported that a ballistic missile was shot down while heading towards the city of Yanbu.

The city of Yanbu is currently at the center of Iranian airstrikes, as it is home to the Saudi Aramco–Exxon refinery, but sources told Reuters that the impact of the attacks was minimal.

This is the port on the Red Sea where the pipeline that is Saudi Arabia's alternative for exporting oil ends.
