The rescue operation will begin after March 24

According to information, the competent authorities have located the sea tunnel in which the 34-year-old diver is estimated to be trapped. However, the rescue operation is not expected to take place before March 24, according to information, as the preparation of the necessary specialized equipment is underway due to the danger and the special conditions at the site.

The incident occurred at noon on Sunday (22/3), when the accompanying diver managed to return to the surface on his own and immediately informed the Authorities, expressing concern that the 34-year-old was likely trapped inside the underwater formation.

A major search and rescue operation was immediately launched by the Coast Guard, with the assistance of a floating vessel, divers from the Underwater Missions Unit, and specialized cave divers from private teams.

The conditions at the site are characterized as particularly demanding, due to the great depth and strong currents.

According to the Greek Rescue Team, the missing diver had special equipment that provided him with an additional supply of oxygen for a period of approximately 3 to 5 hours, as well as an underwater scooter, which is used for easier movement during dives.

It's worth noting that in 1978 two American servicemen accompanied by the siter of one were lost in the same sinkhole with their remains being recovered decades later.
