Plevris: Communist leader can go to Litochoro to commemorate the start of the civil war, but I can’t honor those who kept Greece free?

Thanos Plevris expressed his annoyance with those who commented on his statement that there are actions of the KKE that were not in favor of the homeland on Monday morning.

As he told SKAI, “the KKE went to Litochoro on Sunday to commemorate the start of the civil war, where members of the democratic army murdered police officers in an AT and the civil war began, and Mr. Koutsoumbas honors that. I, who was on the other side, my faction, with those who defended and kept the country free, cannot say that I do not honor the struggles of those men? (ed. of the Democratic Army)”.

“Why in Greece in 2026 can the left honor its struggles and not be considered [condoning] a civil war and say that they have this right. They can honor their own and when we on the right say that we want to honor our own who both won and were vindicated by history, it is a civil war. So we should honor the struggles of the left?” continued Mr. Plevris.

As he noted, "in 2026 we must speak without passions, but when we have a historical discussion, everyone will honor their own struggles. One side cannot demand that everything be honored as if it were a sensitive group. There is a historical path and in it there are actions that were not in favor of the homeland. During the Civil War, what should I say that the bloodshed of the homeland and the massacre of children were okay? If I come out and say that I am a right-winger and I want to honor Eleni Gatzogiannis who was executed because she did not want to give her children to the curtain, is it a civil war?"

"There is concern because we have been informed about 1 million people moving to Lebanon due to war"

"There is still no pressure on immigration due to war. However, we have information that there is mobility within Iran and Lebanon for approximately 1 million people who have been transferred to different cities and this worries us," said the Minister of Migration and Asylum, Thanos Plevris, on Monday morning

As he explained to SKAI, "when mobility develops, there is concern that if the conflicts persist, there will be population movements."

Specifically, regarding Libya, he said that "we experienced the flows that we were in last year, while the total flows have decreased by 46%," noting that "there are 500,000 displaced people in eastern and western Libya and that is why we have a concern. We are in negotiations with the government of eastern Libya."

Regarding the new migration pact, he explained that "what we achieved with France, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium was to eliminate thousands of cases of return of migrants to our country due to Dublin 2. However, since the signing of the pact on June 12, we have reactivated Dublin 2. The pact applies to situations of normality. Flows of up to 150,000 have been considered normal." He noted, finally, that "the goal with the return centers in third countries is to prevent illegal immigrants from staying here."

Historical context of Litochoro

The breakup with the political establishment KKE was announced with a decision to boycott the 1946 elections and referendum. The elections were later won by Nationalists and the monarchy was restored. On 30 March, the night before the election, a small band of ex-ELAS fighters attacked the gendarmerie station in Litochoro and killed the few gendarmes in a viscious firefight.
