Impressive images from the sinking of the ship with the aim of creating a diving park were recorded three days ago at Ombrosgyalos Beach in Chania, Crete.

A video published by zarpanews.gr records the moment of the controlled explosion of the tanker "Folegandros" at Ombrosgyalos Beach in Kefalas. The sinking of the ship was carried out by the Greek Navy with the assistance of the Naval Station of Crete.

It is recalled that the tugboat "Nestor" is already at the bottom of the same sea area with the aim of creating a diving park in Apokoronas.

The area where the diving park is being created will be monitored on a 24-hour basis either with cameras or with physical monitoring, while the possibility of developing marine life in the wider area will also be given.

The diving park will be operational in October
The mayor of Apokoronas, Charalambos Koukianakis, speaking to zarpanews.gr, stressed that its operation is expected to begin towards the end of the tourist season, around October - November, while the aim is to strengthen diving tourism as an alternative form of tourism, while it will be open for visits all year round, expecting to attract visitors from all over the world.

According to him, the next step is to discuss the operating regulations of the Diving Park and this will happen at the next Municipal Council, on June 29, while the signing of the program agreement with the Development of the Municipality of Apokoronas, which will also be responsible for its operation, will follow.
