Phone of british woman found dead in suitcase was working

The victim, a 38-year-old Scottish woman, was identified through fingerprint records held by U.S. authorities from a previous work trip, following cooperation between Greek police, Interpol and American agencies. 

Her body was found on July 18, stuffed inside a suitcase in an abandoned building in the Kypseli district of Athens.

According to investigators, the woman arrived in Greece from Edinburgh on June 26 and was staying at a friend's home in Athens. 

Her last known contact with friends was on July 15, a date authorities consider critical to the timeline. Forensic estimates indicate she had been dead for several days before her body was discovered on July 18.

Investigators found her phone remained active after her presumed death, with messages sent from the device — a detail that has drawn particular scrutiny. 

The phone was switched off shortly after the case became public, and it has remained inactive since.

Police are treating the case as a criminal investigation and are awaiting toxicology results expected to clarify the cause and circumstances of death. 

Homicide detectives are working to reconstruct the woman's final movements, reviewing security camera footage and identifying individuals she was in contact with before she died.

No arrests have been announced. The investigation remains ongoing.
