One in four Greeks owes back taxes

New data released today by the Finance ministry shows that one out of four Greeks owes money to the Tax Bureau. The total amount of money owed to the state is at 62.5 billion euros.
The total amount of money owed to the state is at 62.5 billion euros. Out of those, only 1.5 billion worth of debt has been regulated with the Bureau for eventual payoff.
This means that out of the 2.6 million Greek debtors recorded after January 2013, only 92,323 taxpayers have come forth to the tax offices for regulation. About 1.3 million people have overdue debt to the state, owing a total of 52.5 billion euros, as of January 2014.
