Ellinikon mayor to account for freak playground death
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
The general secretary for decentralized governance Manolis Aggelakas has issued a summons for the deposition of Ellinikon mayor Christos Kortzidis for the death of a 13 year old at an unlicensed amusement park, under his jurisdiction.
The mayor is called to answer within ten days, through a written deposition for the avalanche of infringements and negligence that caused the death of the thirteen year old and the wounding of his nine year old sister.
More specifically, Christos Kortzidis is called upon to retort to the following:
-
Renting the lot to the firm without any license for installation or operation of the facility, and without any study on safety measures.
-
Allowing the amusement park's operation with licensing but only through rental contracts for 2011 and 2012.
-
He is also called upon to explain why he didn't stop its operation when the rental contract ran out in February 2014.
As the summons notes, if the mayor does not retort within the allotted ten day period he will relieved of his duties.
At the same time, there are serious questions as concerns the very idea of such establishments after a series of four injuries at Happy Fun amusement park on Chios and Mytilene, which the mayor did not bother to check on.
At the same testimony from the park's manager is detrimental for the mayor, as the former states categorically that he was never asked to present any documents, or licenses.
The three persons arrested for running the amusement park have been released pending trial.
