Syrian Doctor Elected Mayor of Andravida

A first for the municipality of Andravida-Kyllini, which elected Syrian doctor Nabil-Iosif Morant as mayor.
The results were secured by 11.30 pm when Dr Morant celebrated among cheering supporters at his campaign office. Mr Morantheaded the ticket “Citizen's Agreement,” ahgainst opponent Andreas Koromilas.
As concerns his priorities as mayor, Dr Morant noted what he wants to do to improve life for citizens, as well as economic migrants that work in the agricultural fields of his municipality. Priorities for Mr Morant are water and sewage, city cleanliness, lighting, and road works among other things.
As concerns the economic migrants, Dr Morant stressed that he plans to work with state agencies as well as the Embassy of Bangladesh, since most migrants are from there, in order to find solutions to improve living and working conditions. The new mayor wants to establish a n open surgery providing them with medical care and social tutoring service to teach migrants Greek.
Nabil Morant was born in 1962 in Homs, Syria, and came to Greece 25 years ago, after studying medicine in Bulgaria. With his Greek wife, who is also a doctor they moved to Lechaina, opened up their private practise and had two children. A few days ago they had their first grandchild.
In 2002 and 2006 he was elected municipal counselor for Lechaina, and in 2010 municipal councilor for Andravida.
