Eurostat Confirms Greek Population Decline
According to Eurostat estimates, the Greek population decreased from 11.06 million on 2013's first day, to 10.99 million on 2014's first day of the year.
In Eurostate's yearly population analysis of EU member states, Greece was ranked one of the lowest in birth rates, that held 8.5%. Eurostat approximated that 94,100 babies were born in Greece over the year, while 112,100 deaths occurred.
An additional element affecting population figures is migration trends; 52,000 more citizens are moving out of the country than moving in. The EU's total population for January 1st this year held 507.4 million, while last year's same date had 505.7 million people.
